What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?

The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is a structured, research-based teaching method that supports students with reading, spelling and writing. It was originally designed to help struggling readers, especially those with dyslexia, but benefits all students. The OG approach is based on scientific evidence about how people learn to read and write, as well as an understanding of dyslexia. It uses a multi-sensory approach that engages all of a student's senses, including sight, hearing, touch, and movement, to help them connect language with letters and words.
